University of Ballarat

The University of Ballarat is the only regionally headquartered, multisector university in Australia, and takes its name from an Indigenous word, with Ballarat meaning "resting place". The University's Act mandates that it must provide for the "educational, cultural, professional, technical and vocational services to the community and of persons living and working in Central and Western Victoria".

The University's six campuses offer the best of both worlds, combining 137 years of tertiary education in Ballarat with the freedom and dynamism of a relatively new university with close links to local industry and technology. The University has 25,000 students, of whom 25 per cent are studying for postgraduate qualifications and 7,500 are international students.

The Centre for Health Innovation (CHI) is an independent non-for-profit initiative by health and government. CHI actively develops partnerships between clinicians, researchers and industry to improve the quality and safety of healthcare. The fully isolated medical-grade network at CHI is the first of its kind in Australia, enabling advanced equipment, software and process testing, without any risk to patient safety or critical hospital systems.
